HOW IT WORKS

After our phone consultation and you decide to move forward, we will meet and gather background information (no filling out paperwork ahead of time). I will complete a Speech/Language evaluation, develop goals and provide therapy services individualized to your child’s specific needs. We will discuss home programming and parent education will be provided at each session. We’ll work as a team to determine the best course of action for your child. I will come packed with ideas and activities.

My approach is a combination of structured speech tasks along with using many hands-on, daily activities that create a motivating environment.  I use executive functioning tasks for every age that include planning and completing sequenced activities.

I teach communication through whole-body learning that includes sensory integration and motor planning activities. This combo helps connect the brain-body performance.

SKILLED TRAINING AND SKILLS:

  • PROMPT - touch cues to a client’s articulators (jaw, tongue, lips) that help them physically make and combine speech sounds.  Helps connect the brain to the mouth.

  • Facial Reflex Integration - hands-on facial input that awakens the nervous system to allow proper messaging from the brain to the mouth.

  • Executive Functioning -  set of rules to participate in daily tasks. Useful for all ages and activities. I use many hands-on sequenced activities to target this.

  • Sensory Processing Integration - Helps our bodies regulate.  How the brain processes and responds to environmental stimuli (e.g. smell, sound touch, tactile, vestibular, proprioception)

  • Feeding.  Combined approaches to fit your child’s individual needs.

    • SOS Approach to Feeding- integrates oral motor skills, behavior, sensory, and nutrition through gradual steps that increase food exploration.

    • Get permission approach

  • DIR Floortime - Foundational framework for promoting human connection through respectful, playful, and engaging activities.  Designed for parent education and is useful to combine with therapy.

  • Visualizing and Verbalizing - Develops concept imagery for reading and expression by generating detailed attributes of picture scenes.

  • Gestalt Learning - Adult verbally responds to comments on the intention of the child’s speech.  Great for early language learners and Autism.

  • Brain Gym Exercises -  Exercises that improve overall cognitive function.

  • Zones of Regulation - Teaches regulation by categorizing feelings and states of alertness.

  • PECS - Picture Exchange system for nonverbal speakers.
