Look Do Say

Skilled and Motivating Techniques to Build Communication through Whole Body learning, Play and Daily Living Skills

All ages. All Skill Levels.

Kids learn by doing and success increases after they’ve watched the demonstration.  Hands-on activities keep kids motivated and engaged! Sequencing activities can be as simple as cutting a piece of playdough to following a complex recipe.

Whether it be practicing sounds or expressive language, the words come easier after kids first watch how to do something then do it themselves. The magic happens when they get to tell us what to do and even more when we make mistakes.

Kids learn through watching. Simply saying “Look” and then demonstrating increases their ability to follow directions. I’m often surprised at how much giving that cue to stop and watch really helps.

About Look Do Say

This is a relatively simple yet effective approach developed from years of trying to teach kids to retain information and increase their expression.  Look Do Say is meant to be easily implemented by parents because it can be used for every activity of daily living. I often tell parents that one of my ultimate goals for my clients is to describe an event. How often do we ask “What happened?” with minimal response. I also find that many clients have reading comprehension difficulties but if they can’t describe what they just did, then describing a story will be even more difficult.  Plus, adult social interaction often consists of describing events we’ve had so why not start practicing this at an early age.
